in class we made a DNA strand with brown and red licorice and green red yellow and orange gum drops some toothpicks and 2 peices of string.
What we did first was we made a not at the end of the 2 strings and Then we took a needle and rapped it aound the other end of the string to thread the brown and red licorice through. When we put the licorice on the string we put so it was
red brown red brown red brown ect (we have 8 pieces of licorice 4 for each string).Then we made the green gumm drops guanine
and the yellow gum drops where cytosine and they went to geather on the red licorice known as the pentose sugar molecules and the brown licorice is phoophate molecule (Note: all of the gumm drops go on the red licorice only) once all of the licorice is threaded and its in order we now make it a ladder we first put the gum drops on the tooth picks then we attach it to the licorice (red) and then we twist it a little bit and you have your DNA

this fun experiment actually helped me because i never new which ones went togeather (guanine, adenine, cytosine, thymine) but now i i know G & C, A & T
