a prime number that has 7,816,230 digits!!!!

who? mathematicians or anyone!!!

what? The largest prime number IN THE WORLD!!!! The largest prime number in the world has 7,816,230 digits!!! If you could write 10 digits per sec (that would be pretty darn fast!!!) if would take you about 9 days to write out the whole number with no stop! I dont know about you but that seems like a pretty big number. A computer found this number and the computer belongs to the GIMPS (Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search) People all over the world spend there time to find these prime numbers.
when? didnt say when

where? no answer

why? Just for fun!!!

Heads or tails might not be the best way to make decisions and break ties

who? Anyone

what? Flipping a coin might not be the best way to mke your decisions

when? When you need to settle a decision with someone

where? Anywhere

why? mathematicians say that the coin has to be flipped a certain way in order to be fair. In order to have a fair chance of winning you would have to make the coin spin in the air a certain way. Some people who flip a coin dont even make the coin flip a full 360 degree circle. If the heads is faceing up when you start it has a better chance of landing on heads. That means the person who picked tails didnt get a fair chance. So next time you need to decide something between someone else. Think of a better way to do it =]

140-year-old Math Problem Solved (math blog 1)

Who? mathematicians or anyone!!! The person who has solved the math problem was Professor Darren Crowdy

what? A math problem or formula. The formula called the Schwarz-Christoffel formula was made by to mathematicians in the 19th century. But in the formula there was a deficiency : it only worked for shapes that did not contain any holes or irregularities. Prfessor Darren Crowdy explians his answer:

"This formula is an essential piece of mathematical kit which is used the world over. Now, with my additions to it, it can be used in far more complex scenarios than before. In industry, for example, this mapping tool was previously inadequate if a piece of metal or other material was not uniform all over - for instance, if it contained parts of a different material, or had holes."

when? 140 years!!!! =O

where? At Imperial College London

why? There really was no reason why there was a deficiency
